The Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) was introduced on 6 April 2012 to help smaller companies raise early-stage capital as they begin trading.
Modelled on the long-standing Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS), SEIS offers more generous tax incentives to compensate investors for the higher risk associated with investing in young businesses.
At the time of writing, the combined tax reliefs available under SEIS are worth up to 64% of the amount invested, through a combination of income and capital gains tax benefits.
- 50% Income Tax Relief for current or previous Tax Year (from date of Share Certificate)
- 50% Reinvestment relief -Capital Gains write off
- No Inheritance Tax after 2 years
- No Income Tax or Capital Gains on any Profits from the sale of shares
- Loss Relief on any monies lost at your current tax rate
- Monies must remain in the company for 3 years to benefit from the above
